Binance Recruits former U.S. Agent to help with compliance


The world’s largest cryptocurrency exchange, Binance, hired a former U.S. Internal Revenue Service agent who has earlier worked on some of the digital-asset world’s most high-profile investigations.
Tigran Gambaryan led several multibillion-dollar cyber-investigations at IRS. It includes on the Silk Road website and the Mt. Gox hack. Gambaryan joins Binance as vice president of global intelligence & investigations. Matthew Price is another former IRS special agent. He is also getting on board as senior director of investigations, as reported by Binance.
Binance, the Chief Executive Officer of Binance, Changpeng “CZ” Zhao, said, “The Binance investigations team now includes the top investigators in the world. This level of experience will make Binance a leader in compliance, enhancing trust in Binance and the cryptocurrency ecosystem as a whole.”
While serving at the IRS-Criminal Investigations Cyber Crimes Cell, Gambaryan has investigated several cases involving terrorism financing, national security, distribution of child pornography, identity theft, bank secrecy act violations, and tax evasion.
Gambaryan shares in an email, “I led some of the most significant cyber and cryptocurrency investigations in history, including the Silk Road, BTC-e bitcoin exchange, and the Mt. Gox hack. I look forward to bringing this experience to Binance’s investigations team and cementing Binance’s position as an industry leader in compliance and investigations.”
Gambaryan also claims that compliance stands as the first line of defense. He emphasizes that their goal remains to increase people’s trust in crypto. In this journey, they aim to establish Binance as the leading contributor in the fight against ransomware, human trafficking, and terrorism financing.
