SKT Telecom launches ifland Metaverse Globally in 49 nations worldwide

On Thursday, SK Telecom announced that its metaverse platform ‘ifland’ launched simultaneously in 49 countries and regions throughout the world.
With the debut of ifland on a worldwide scale, SKT will actively exploit K-pop material, create engaging content with international partners, and improve communication features to mould ifland into a leading social metaverse platform on a global scale.
For users of Android and iOS smartphones, the international version of ifland supports English, Chinese (Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese), and Japanese. The current version of the ifland app will be updated to the new worldwide version. For instance, when accessed from Korea, the app will automatically launch in Korean mode, and when accessed from other countries, it will launch in global mode.
Ifland will provide a unique communication experience within the metaverse under the tagline, "The New Way of Socializing."
"We will show the potential of K-metaverse in Europe, the United States, the Middle East, and East Asia beyond South Korea," SKT's metaverse business head Yang Maeng-Seok said in a statement on November 23.
Every week, SKT will broadcast a variety of K-pop live entertainment. Ifland will publish more than half of its K-pop content in English in order to appeal to fans outside. For fans from outside, there will be a variety of K-pop content, such as rookie idol development and K-pop trainee auditions.
Through collaborations with significant telecommunications providers on each continent, SKT will significantly increase ifland's global reach. The business collaborates with Singtel in South East Asia and e& (formerly known as Etisalat Group) in the Middle East, Africa, and Asia.
In order to improve their metaverse services, SKT and NTT Docomo, the largest mobile operator in Japan, inked a memorandum of understanding on November 18, 2022. This agreement calls for their cooperation in the areas of content, technology, and service. There are also ongoing partnership conversations with other telecommunications firms.
SKT intends to create specialized features specific to each location in collaboration with its international partners. Additionally, they will encourage numerous corporate partnerships and activities connected to the metaverse, including the cooperative creation of well-liked regional content.
Additionally, SKT intends to provide content geared toward the "MZ generation" (Millennials and Generation Z) through collaborations with a variety of parties, including foreign colleges and global corporations.
