Elliptic finds a dubious crypto wallet holdings millions of dollars linked to sanctioned Russians

United Kingdom based blockchain security and forensics company Elliptic has been collaborating with authorities to expose crypto dubious wallets connected with sanctioned Russian individuals or companies. On Monday, in an interview, Elliptic co-founder Tom Robinson said that the wallet they uncovered has “significant crypto-asset holdings” in the huge amount of money which may be tied to sanctioned Russian authorities and oligarchs.

At this time, Elliptic, whose consumers consist of government agencies and crypto exchanges, has identified significantly more than 400 crypto businesses solutions that let their users mostly anonymous to exchange assets which can be electronic rubles. Additionally, significantly more than fifteen million cryptocurrency addresses had been also linked by Elliptic to russian related tasks that are criminal. The finding comes amid a debate that is heated whether cryptocurrencies may be used to evade additional sanctions imposed on Russian oligarchs and officials since Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

As per report, in the interview Elliptic co-founder Tom Robinson suggested that cryptocurrency may be used to evade sanctions but main concern is in what form of scale. Nevertheless, it has been widely recognized and stated that Russia is unlikely to use crypto assets to prevent the sanctions that have been imposed. However, neither the amount nor kind of crypto assets discovered in the wallet was specified in this report. In accordance with Robinson, there is a debate throughout the magnitude of crypto use. Last week, activity on these exchanges tripled versus the week ahead of the war broke out in late February, Robinson stated. “In general, the degree of sanction compliance is quite high,” Robinson said.
